DELTA (May 30, 2018) – Delta South MLA Ian Paton says Delta residents should be very concerned about the NDP’s upcoming referendum on electoral reform.
After months of keeping British Columbians in the dark, B.C. Attorney General David Eby finally released more details today, and Paton says those details confirm what he’s been saying all along— that the deck is being stacked to produce the desired outcome of the NDP and its Green partners.
“What we know today is that the Premier is breaking a number of promises he made to the electorate. The simple ‘yes or no’ question he committed to has been abandoned, as has the promise of an all-party committee of the Legislature to consult with British Columbians on the issue of electoral reform.
“What we still don’t know is what any new electoral boundaries could look like, and what those potential changes could mean for Delta. Could our constituency borders change, to include parts of Richmond and Surrey? That’s something our local residents deserve to know ahead of time— but unfortunately, no maps are being provided.”
Paton says he will work hard to ensure Delta residents are well-informed ahead of the fall vote.
